The purpose of the following paper is to crystallize the current issues under headings with the intention of highlighting the problems and optional solutions.

An appropriate starting point would seem to be a clear simple unambiguous output specification that in four or five paragraphs states those minimum standards that the LCN+ network will seek to achieve.

·        The maximum allowable difference between the surface and the underside of a straight edge placed parallel with the kerb or centre line will not exceed 10mm.

·        The maximum vertical lip or step running parallel with the kerb will not exceed 10mm.

·        The maximum width of any crack will not exceed 10mm.

·        Ponding to a depth in excess of 10mm will be eliminated wherever possible.

·        LCN+ cycle lanes will be illuminated by street lighting to a minimum level of 2 lux.

·        Overhanging vegetation will be cut back to a level of at least 3 metres over cycle lanes and 0.5 metres clear to the side of cycle lanes.
