No number of cycle paths is going to help the vast number of commuters who work in London but live outside, if they can't get their bikes on trains. In Kent we have numerous empty 1st class carriages but no space for bikes. This needs addressing, or the station circular is pointless.
You may argue that we should park our bikes at the station and leave them there overnight, not only would my insurance not pay out if my bike was stolen, but it wouldn't cover the entire cost. Also, am I supposed to have a bike in my home town end for me to get from station to house? Well, if you pay for the bikes and the parking I might consider it? no? I didn't think you would be game.
Most trains don't even have space for folding bikes, this being despite the fact that train management seems to impose no restriction on the amount of hand baggage you can carry on. If I take the wheels and handlebars and pedals off my bike and put the lot in a carry all, I can take it on. Not really convenient but it does kind of makes a mockery of the train authority rulings.........
